Living in New York many of us live strenuous lifestyles. For anyone, whether it’s working toward aCARDIO_SPRAGUE deadline, finding time for your friends or providing for a family, we all deal with stress, and all differently. Further than that, if you happen to be one of the millions of career driven fabulous people in New York City the Stress is at least doubled.

Despite what many of you may believe (even myself one time or another) drinking is not the best way to relieve stress and neither is sex (it usually causes more). Actually a good cardio routine is a great way to stay fit and stress free. As light or as extreme as you choose it’s the best and easiest way to literally shake off a deadline or a bad date.

Cardiovascular exercise is measured by your Target Heart Rate Zone. Sure you can go for a walk to slowly burn calories but your heart doesn’t reap the best benefits unless your heart rate is raised, usually to a level that you can just barely talk while in movement. Personally, i do at least 20 minutes daily during the week and more on the weekends. Those working toward a goal to decrease body fat percentage should so more.

Here are some of the benefits

  • Cardio makes your heart strong, so it doesn’t have to work so hard to pump blood
  • One of the best ways to burn calories and fat
  • It helps reduce risk of heart attack, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes
  • It makes you feel good overall

The most common Cardo exercises include jogging and swimming outside of the gym (or invest in a good jump rope). Inside, the stepper or eliptical are good subsitutes. Although as much as I hate it, I have found that theres nothing better than hitting the pavement.
