The Bad “Cottage Cheese” – Cellulite
Most of us have it and fight to be rid of it; I myself have purchased a few creams to treat the cottage cheese that seems to barely gather around my thighs. Being a self proclaimed perfectionist and health enthusiast, I can’t help but obsess upon seeing cellulite. 90% of women develop some form of cellulite in their post-adolescent years. It usually gathers around the buttocks, thigh and stomach area and increases with hormonal changes such as pregnancy and the use of birth control.
Cellulite can be described as pockets of fat that are trapped beneath the skin causing a dimpled appearance. Underneath the dermis and epidermis are three specific layers of fat. Cellulite tends to develop in the subcutaneous fat layers. This layer of fat is unique in its structure compared to the other layers because its fatty parts are structured into specific chambers by strands of linked tissue around it. Although many attribute it to obesity really, cellulite’s formation is a result of complex physiological changes that occur in the subcutaneous fat layer.
Regular healthy diet and exercise help the results of those who do develop cellulite but there is no real treatment. Most creams do help the appearance of the skin but there is no evidence that cellulite wont return after you discontinue usage.
Now ladies, what does this teach us? Mainly that none of us are perfect and cellulite effects us all eventually. And Guys? Although men are rarely affected with this exterior inconvenience, it happens (and women can’t be always perfect all the time).
